Our Artists

 Our Paintings

dulcinea herrera

Each painting at Café Corazón highlights influential Latinx figures who have shaped our culture through social justice, art, and politics. The individuals featured on our walls represent diverse countries across Latin America or have Latinx heritage. Through this collection, we honor the richness of our roots and affirm that Latinx identity is beautifully diverse—and resilient in the face of adversity.

Our Murals

Rodrigo Alvarez and Isaac Tapia

Mujer – Café Corazón Westport
A vibrant tribute to Latinx culture and the strength of immigrants who’ve made Kansas City home. Featuring Frida Kahlo surrounded by national flowers from Latin American countries and skylines of KC, Mexico City, Buenos Aires, and Asunción, it celebrates identity, resilience, and community. Watch the mural being made.

Raíces – Café Corazón Crossroads
This mural honors the Indigenous roots of coffee, yerba mate, and blue corn—plants sacred to Native cultures. The central figure protects these gifts, symbolizing cultural preservation. With elements like the Aztec calendar and floating leaves, it’s a reminder of heritage, resistance, and connection to the Earth. Watch the mural being made.

Diosa – Café Corazón Brookside
A personal homage to CEO Dulcinea Herrera, depicted pouring yerba mate—an act rooted in her family tradition. Hummingbirds represent ancestors, and the surrounding flowers reflect the beauty and diversity of South America. "Diosa" celebrates leadership, lineage, and the sacredness of cultural identity.

About

IT-RA Icons is a muralist duo made up of Kansas City-based artists Isaac Tapia and Rodrigo “Rico” Alvarez. Since beginning their collaboration in 2017, they’ve created over 30 murals across the KC metro area. Their work is known for its vibrant colors, evolving designs, and themes that celebrate community, diversity, and cultural identity.

Both artists immigrated to the U.S. at a young age, and their murals serve as a tribute to their families’ sacrifices and the strength of immigrant communities. Through their art, they aim to uplift others, celebrating the beauty of difference and the power of perseverance.

Isaac Tapia, born in Mexico, is known for his expressive portrait work that honors influential community members. He primarily works in oil but also enjoys watercolors, drawing, and the occasional landscape.

Rodrigo “Rico” Alvarez, originally from Rivera, Uruguay, creates sculptural work that explores the balance and power of nature. By transforming metal into organic forms, he reflects the resilience and harmony of Mother Earth.
